View Full Version : Labelling Open Strings

Is there a way of labelling open strings with either pitch or interval?

I'm aiming to encourage students to identify the intervalic content of chords and scales. Neck diagrams is excellent for this but I would like to label open strings too so we can do so across the full range of the fretboard.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Justin.

Hi Justin

Sound like you just need you check the 'Draw notes/intervals on open string' box on the Board tab of the Inspector.

Hopefully that's it but let me know if you have any further questions.

Hi there

The Scale Generator has an additional option to 'allow open strings' and it's found on the last page before the scale is generated. (screenshot below). Once this option is selected the it'll be enable as a default until manually unchecked, so you only have to turn on once.

many thanks this sorted it. the other option in the inspector did not alter anything after the scale generation. is it supposed to correct it?

No problem at all and no, they're separate tools.

The 'allow open strings' option in the scale generator is used to draw note markers where any notes in the appear in the open position.

The 'draw notes / intervals on open strings' is used to display the pitch or interval inside the open string marker. By default this is disabled and the open string markers are simple, hollow circles.

I hope that clears things up.

maybe a suggestion for a tool that adds open string intervals after generation just in case you forgot?
