Hi. Your tenor banjo template has fret marker dots at frets 3-5-7-9-12-15. However, my banjo (like many others) has a different configuration: 1-3-5-10-12-15. I would like to be able to make my diagrams match this.

Could you add the possible for user-configured fret marker dots?

Thanks,
Doug

Hi Doug,

You'll be glad to hear this is something we have a ticket for and plan to have implemented for ND2.

Am I right to think banjos as a rule have a marker at the 10th instead of the 9th? Perhaps we should make that the default across our banjos?

That's good news indeed!

Yes, apparently most — but not all — banjos do have a marker on the 10th fret. I did a Google search for tenor banjo images, and the first couple of dozen images suggest that:

1. about 50% have a marker on fret 1; the other half have none
2. absolutely all of them have markers on frets 3, 5 and 7
3. most of them (80-90%?) have a marker on fret 10; the rest (10-20%?) have one on fret 9
4. all have markers on fret 12
5. most (90%?) have one on fret 15
6. most (75%?) have one on fret 17
7. a few (10% or less) have one on fret 19 (of course, some tenor banjos have only 17 frets)

I am no expert, but based on the above, I would recommend putting the default markers on frets 3, 5, 7, 10, 12, 15 and 17.

P.S. Of course, the previous recommendation is for TENOR banjo only. I don't know anything about other banjos.

Thanks for the input Doug! I've raised a ticket so that we have different default fret markers for banjos, will scan other images too. Plus makes sense to also check some of the other instruments we support.

On my mandolin there are markers at 5, 7, 10, 12, 15. I don't know what is standard. An image search, like dmcclure did would do the trick. Or you might just look at what Gibson does as the standard, at least outside of the classical mando world.

Yes, it would be nice to be able to add or delete markers to/from the default to reflect one's instrument.

Hi Jonz

Thanks for the input. I'm not sure if we have anything logged for complete customisation of fretboard markers. I can certainly raise a ticket to look into the possibility but it will go into our backlog of feature request I'm afraid - we already have a mountain of things for the next version - adding any more will just prolong the release further.

Thanks

The first page of images in a search of "mandolin" resulted in the marker always on the 10th, instead of 9th, fret. So you might want to at least update your default.

Also, on a mandolin there is usually not a dot on the third fret.

Hi Jonz - as per Justin's post above, the plan is to provide some variations on the defaults - the 3rd fret marker seems to come up quite a bit so best we leave it as an option than removed it altogether.

Thanks
